What is CAM and why does it matter?
The Canadian Association of Movers is the industry body. Membership requires a code of conduct, a real business address and a complaints process that sits outside the company. It is not a guarantee of a good move, but it filters out the operators who exist only as a phone number and a rented truck.
What is a hostage load?
A mover quotes low, loads your belongings, then demands far more before unloading. It is the single most common moving scam in the GTA and it works because your possessions are already on the truck. The defences are a binding written estimate, never signing a blank or partly blank contract, and confirming the company has a physical address you could visit.
What does a Toronto move cost?
Local moves usually run $120 to $200 an hour for two movers and a truck, with three movers around $160 to $260. A one bedroom apartment typically lands between $600 and $1,200 all in. Add a premium for the last weekend of the month, and a larger one for June 30 and August 31.
Is my stuff insured during the move?
Basic cargo liability is often only about sixty cents per pound, which values a fifty pound television at thirty dollars. That is standard across the industry and it is not enough. Ask about replacement value protection, and check whether your home insurance already extends to goods in transit.
When should I book?
