Mississauga is where the front-yard bylaw matters most. The city’s zoning by-law sets a minimum landscaped soft area for residential front yards, 40 percent in most zones, and a generation of driveway extensions and paved gardens has left a lot of lots at or over the line. A hardscape quote that does not start with your zoning is a quote that might have to be undone.
That shapes the choice more than it would in a newer suburb. The contractor who asks what zone you are in before measuring is the contractor who has had a job stopped by the city before. The one who offers permeable pavers is the one who knows how to give you more surface without breaching the rule.
The other thing that separates the companies on this page is where the truck starts. Most GTA interlock outfits are Toronto based and serve Mississauga from there. Two here say they are based in the city, one built for whole yards and one for small jobs. For a whole-yard build that is a detail. For a walkway it is the whole decision.
The list
Pro-Loc Interlocking & Landscape Design
Best overall
The longest record on this page and the widest range, from a straight driveway to a full backyard with a kitchen in it.
Why it is here
Pro-Loc has been building since 2003, which in a trade where companies appear every spring and vanish by the second winter is the first thing worth knowing. Interlock fails slowly. A base that was under-compacted shows up as a dip in year three, and a border that was not restrained shows up as a spreading edge in year five. Twenty years of installations means twenty years of work that has either held or come back, and the company is still here.
The second thing is scope. Most interlock outfits do driveways, patios and walkways. Pro-Loc adds retaining walls, pool decks, outdoor kitchens, pergolas, flagstone and natural stone, with design handled in house. That matters when the project is a whole yard rather than one surface, because the sequencing of a wall, a patio and a kitchen slab is where separate contractors start blaming each other.
It works across southern Ontario rather than Mississauga alone, and keeps a dedicated Mississauga page. For the homeowner who wants one firm to draw it and build it, this is the pick.
Best for
- Whole-yard design and build
- Walls with a patio behind
- Outdoor kitchens and pergolas
What sets it apart
Design and construction under one roof, with the range to build everything the design calls for. Nobody else here covers walls, kitchens and pergolas alongside the paving.
Worth knowing
- Southern Ontario wide means Mississauga is one market among many, not a home base.
- A firm built for whole-yard projects is rarely the cheapest quote on a single walkway.
Reliable Hardscapes
Best for pool and full outdoor builds
Fifteen years in Mississauga specifically, one crew from excavation to the last paver, and the only company here that builds the pool as well as the deck around it.
Why it is here
Reliable Hardscapes is the second full design and build operation on this page, and the more Mississauga one. Its site talks about fifteen-plus years in this city rather than the GTA in general, and the founder, Dave, is named with a direct number. That combination, local tenure and an owner you can reach, is rare in a trade where most quotes come from a sales rep for a company based somewhere else.
The scope is what separates it from the paving specialists lower down. Patios, walkways, driveways, retaining walls, steps, pool decks, outdoor kitchens and pergolas are all named, and so are pools themselves. Its Oakville case study is an inground pool with a paver deck and a covered pergola, dug and finished by one crew. Nobody else here builds the hole the deck goes around, and on a pool project that is the difference between one contract and three.
It states that it is licensed and insured and backs installations with a workmanship warranty on top of manufacturer warranties on the materials. Five hundred projects delivered is the site's own count, but fifteen years of Mississauga freeze-thaw is the number that matters, and the company is still trading.
It sits behind Pro-Loc on tenure, which is eight years longer, and on a stated in-house design step. It sits ahead of everyone else on being local, full-scope and owner-run at once.
Best for
- Pool, deck and pergola together
- Full backyard builds in Mississauga
- Owner on the phone
What sets it apart
Pools. Every other company on this page builds around a pool somebody else installed. This one digs it.
Worth knowing
- The workmanship warranty is stated but its term is not. Ask for the number.
- The site's project count and rating figures are self-reported. Fifteen years and the case studies are the evidence; the numbers are marketing.
Shabatin Interlock
Best written warranty
Five years on every job in writing, and every crew on the payroll rather than subcontracted.
Why it is here
Two claims on Shabatin's site do the work here. The first is a five-year warranty on all of its services, stated as a number rather than a feeling. In interlock, a warranty with a term is the whole difference, because the failures that matter are the ones that show up after the first winter, and a company that stands behind five of them is telling you what it thinks of its base preparation.
The second is that all construction is done in house. Shabatin gives that as the reason it can hold its pricing, which is plausible: a subcontracted crew has a margin stacked on a margin. For the homeowner it means the person who quoted the base depth is the person compacting it.
It also says, in so many words, that it checks the paver base slopes away from the house. That is the single most common thing done wrong on a residential driveway, and most sites do not mention it at all.
Best for
- Warranty-first driveways and patios
- Quoting crew builds it
- Straightforward replacements
What sets it apart
A five-year warranty with the number printed, on everything. The others here promise quality; this one puts a term on it.
Worth knowing
- Toronto based. Mississauga is served, but the truck is coming from the east.
- Positioned on price and warranty rather than design. For a complex layout, look higher on the page.
Action Home Services
Best for design and permeable pavers
3D renders before a shovel goes in, permeable paver options, and WSIB and bonding stated up front.
Why it is here
Action Home Services is the one on this page that talks about the project the way a designer does. It produces 3D renderings before construction, which for a backyard with a kitchen, a fire pit and a pergola is the difference between approving a drawing and approving a guess. It is also the only one here that names permeable pavers as an option, which matters in Mississauga for a reason explained further down: hard surface has a cap, and permeable systems are how you get more usable surface without breaching it.
It states WSIB coverage, insurance and bonding on the site, and carries a warranty. Those are the four things a homeowner should ask for and most sites make you ask. Ten-plus years in business is shorter than the top two but long enough to have installations through a decade of freeze-thaw.
It is a Toronto and GTA company with a Mississauga page, and it covers the full outdoor build: pool decks, kitchens, fire pits, pergolas, natural stone.
Best for
- See it before you build
- Lots near the paving limit
- Full outdoor living builds
What sets it apart
3D design and permeable paving. The first tells you what you are getting; the second is how you get around the bylaw legally.
Worth knowing
- Positioned as luxury landscaping, and the quotes reflect it.
- GTA wide with a Toronto base. Not a Mississauga-only crew.
Enviro-Loc Interlocking
Best for the west side
Twenty-plus years with a Mississauga, Oakville and Milton footprint, and a designer who draws the plan before a crew arrives.
Why it is here
Enviro-Loc's territory is the useful thing. It works Mississauga, Oakville, Milton and Burlington, which is the west side of the region and the side most of the Toronto-based companies on this page reach last. For a homeowner in Erin Mills, Clarkson or Streetsville, it is the closest established operation here.
It has been at this for over twenty years and runs a design step with a named designer, so the plan exists on paper before anyone starts cutting stone. Customer accounts on its own site describe planning meetings and a separate clean-up crew, which is the shape of a company with enough jobs to specialise roles.
The service list is the core of the trade: interlocking driveways, stone patios, walkways, porches and pool decks. Not the outdoor kitchens and pergolas of the top three, but everything that is actually paving.
Best for
- Erin Mills, Clarkson and Streetsville
- Driveways, patios and porches
- Design meeting first
What sets it apart
Location. On the west side of Mississauga it is the nearest company with two decades behind it.
Worth knowing
- Does not list retaining walls, kitchens or structures. Paving only.
- The site does not publish licensing or insurance details. Ask.
Oaks Home Services
Best family-run option
A family-run GTA company with a decade of interlock work and a warranty, covering everything from a walkway to an outdoor kitchen.
Why it is here
Oaks is here for range and for continuity of ownership. It is family run, states over ten years, and carries a warranty, and its service list runs from driveways and walkways through retaining walls and steps to outdoor kitchens, fire pits and pergolas. That is the same breadth as the top of this page from a smaller operation.
Smaller cuts both ways. The person answering the phone is likely to be the person on site, and the company is not stretched across a region. It is also a Toronto and GTA business with a Mississauga page rather than a Mississauga business, so the distance argument applies here as it does to Shabatin and Action.
It is the right call for a homeowner who wants the full range without the luxury positioning above it.
Best for
- Mid-size backyard builds
- Dealing with an owner
- Patio plus retaining wall
What sets it apart
Full build range from a family operation. The scope of the top three without the scale.
Worth knowing
- Toronto based, GTA wide.
- The warranty is stated but its term is not. Ask for the number before signing.
Interlock Mississauga
Best for a Mississauga-based crew
A Mississauga-based paving crew for driveways, extensions, patios, walkways, walls and steps, at the small-job end of the page.
Why it is here
Interlock Mississauga sits last on scope and near the top on proximity. Its own site says it is based in Mississauga, which on this page only Reliable Hardscapes can also say, and the two are aimed at different jobs. Reliable is built for a whole yard. This is the crew for a walkway or a driveway extension, where the contractor fifteen minutes away shows up when it says it will and the quote is not carrying the overhead of a design studio.
The service list is the paving core, driveways, driveway extensions, patios, walkways, retaining walls and steps, with a design consultation offered. Driveway extensions in particular are worth noting, because in Mississauga that is the job most likely to run into the front-yard bylaw and the curb-cut permit, and a local crew has done that paperwork before.
The site does not publish a founding year, a licence or the term of its guarantee, which is why it sits here rather than higher. It is a reasonable second quote for a straightforward job.
Best for
- Driveway extensions
- Small jobs where proximity matters
- Second quote, simple layout
What sets it apart
A Mississauga-based crew for the small jobs the full-build companies do not chase. For a walkway or an extension, proximity is most of the decision.
Worth knowing
- No founding year, no licence and no warranty term published. Ask for all three.
- Paving only. No kitchens, structures or design-led builds.

Which one for your situation
- A whole backyard: patio, wall, kitchen, pergola
- Pro-Loc Interlocking & Landscape Design One firm draws it and builds all of it, so the wall and the kitchen slab are sequenced by the same people.
- A driveway replacement and I want the warranty in writing
- Shabatin Interlock Five years on everything, printed. The crew that quotes the base is the crew that compacts it.
- My front yard is close to the hard-surface limit
- Action Home Services Permeable pavers are how you add surface without breaching the 40 percent soft-area rule, and Action is the one here that offers them.
- I am in Erin Mills or Clarkson
- Enviro-Loc Interlocking Twenty-plus years and a west-side footprint. It is the closest established company on the page.
- A driveway extension
- Interlock Mississauga Mississauga based, and extensions are the job that meets the curb-cut permit. A local crew has filed it before.
- A pool with the deck and pergola around it
- Reliable Hardscapes One contract and one crew from the excavation to the last paver. Everyone else here builds around a pool someone else put in.
- I want to see it before I approve it
- Action Home Services 3D renders before construction. The rest work from a plan drawing.
What it costs in Mississauga
| Job | Typical range | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| Interlock driveway, new | $25 to $45 per sq ft | A two-car driveway of about 600 sq ft lands at $15,000 to $27,000. Curves, borders and a soldier course push it up. |
| Interlock patio | $25 to $50 per sq ft | Small patios cost more per foot because the base work is the same. Natural stone roughly doubles the material. |
| Walkway | $30 to $55 per sq ft | Short runs are the most expensive per foot on the page. Ask for a fixed price, not a rate. |
| Retaining wall | $45 to $95 per face sq ft | Under a metre needs no permit. Over a metre needs an engineer, and the price jumps with it. |
| Lift and relay an existing driveway | $10 to $18 per sq ft | Only worth it if the pavers are sound and the base failed. If both failed, it is a new driveway. |
| Polymeric sand and sealing | $2 to $4 per sq ft | Every three to five years. Skipping it is how weeds and ants take a driveway apart. |
Ranges reflect what these companies and their competitors quote for typical residential work. Every job is priced on inspection.
How to choose in Mississauga
Check your zone before anyone quotes
Mississauga's zoning by-law sets a minimum landscaped soft area for the front yard, 40 percent in most residential zones. A quote that paves more than your zone allows is a quote for work the city can make you tear out. Look your lot up on the city's property information map first.
Widening at the street needs a curb cut
If the driveway gets wider where it meets the road, that is an access modification and it needs a permit from the city. The contractor should know this. If the quote does not mention it, ask why.
Ask for the base depth in writing
Ontario freeze-thaw is what kills interlock. A driveway needs 8 to 12 inches of compacted granular base; a patio needs 6 to 8. A quote that does not state the depth is a quote you cannot compare.
Retaining walls over a metre need an engineer
Under a metre of exposed height generally needs no building permit in Mississauga. Over it, the Ontario Building Code requires engineered design. A contractor who offers to build a tall wall without one is asking you to carry the risk.
WSIB clearance and liability insurance
Interlock crews work with saws, plate compactors and pallets of stone in your driveway. If a worker is hurt and the company is not covered, the claim can come to you. Ask for the WSIB clearance certificate and proof of liability.
Get the warranty term as a number
Everyone says they stand behind their work. Only some say for how long. Five years is the strong end on this page. Anything without a number is not a warranty, it is a mood.
Questions people ask
How much of my front yard can I pave in Mississauga?
It depends on your zone, but most residential zones under the city's zoning by-law require a minimum of 40 percent landscaped soft area in the front yard. That means grass, garden or other planted surface, not stone. Check your lot on the city's property and zoning map before you sign a quote.
Do I need a permit to widen my driveway?
Widening on your own lot is a zoning question, governed by your zone's maximum driveway width and the soft-area minimum. Widening where the driveway meets the street is a curb cut, and that needs an access modification permit from the city.
How long does interlock last in Ontario?
Twenty to thirty years if the base was built for the climate. The pavers themselves last far longer; what fails is an under-built base heaving in freeze-thaw. Sanding and sealing every three to five years keeps the joints tight and the weeds out.
Is a retaining wall a permit job?
In Mississauga, walls under one metre of exposed height generally do not need a building permit, though zoning setbacks still apply. Over one metre, the Ontario Building Code requires engineered design. Any wall holding back a driveway or a structure should be reviewed regardless of height.
What are permeable pavers and why would I want them?
Pavers set on an open-graded base with wider joints, so rain drains through rather than running off. Some municipalities treat them differently from solid hard surface for coverage rules, which can matter if your lot is close to the soft-area limit. Ask the contractor and confirm with the city for your zone.
When should I book?
The autumn before. Interlock crews in the GTA fill their spring calendar by February, and the ground has to be workable, so the season runs roughly April to November. A May enquiry is choosing from whoever is left.
Interlock or poured concrete?
Interlock costs more up front and can be lifted and relaid when a section settles. Concrete is cheaper to pour and cannot be repaired without a visible patch. In a freeze-thaw climate, the ability to repair is worth the premium on any surface you expect to keep for twenty years.
